Finished reading: The Way of Kings Part One by Brandon Sanderson 📚

In the nick of time before semester 2 starts tomorrow, I just finished The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson 📚

Finished reading: The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson 📚

Finished reading: Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson 📚

Finished reading: The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson 📚

Finished reading: Mistborn, The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson 📚

Tonight I finished Ruby Under a Microscope by Pat Shaughnessy 📚

Some sections were pretty tough but the illustrations definitely helped!

The GC chapter was great, especially after listening to www.se-radio.net/2019/07/e…

The JRuby and Rubinius chapters were really helpful. I’d love to see another chapter on TruffleRuby though - github.com/oracle/tr…

I recently finished Bad Debts by Peter Temple 📚🎧

It was a bit gritty for my taste but the writing was excellent and the book was narrated well.

📚 🎧 Finished listening to 9 Perfect Strangers - www.goodreads.com/book/show…

First time I’ve read Liane Moriarty; thoroughly enjoyed it! Some laugh out loud moments but in the end she made me care about every single (flawed!) character!

📚 I ended up enjoying the Fire Sermon so much I read the next two in quick succession!

Dark at times, but believable and compelling! Glad I read them!

📚 My holiday reading this week had an accidental dystopian theme:

  • The Handmaid’s Tail by Margaret Atwood
    ⭐️ ⭐️
  • The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig
    ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I really enjoyed listening to Spy Master by Brad Thor yesterday and today! Well written, well narrated and good right up to (and including) the last sentence!

My only regret is that I didn’t know to start at the beginning of the series!

🎧📚

📚 I’ve spent a decent chunk of today reading (listening to) Heads You Win by Jeffrey Archer.

I’m about 2/3 through and can highly recommend it! (Just don’t click on the above link if you don’t want a mild spoiler shoved in your face)

Yesterday I read (listened to) The Fox by Frederick Forsyth (read by David Rintoul) 📚

It was an easy listen and a nice way to while away some hours. Thankfully, it didn’t distract by trying to be too technical with its description of firewalls and security 🙂

📚 I’m reading Seeing What Others Don’t by Gary Klein and came across this great quote:

The greatest obstacle to knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge. — Daniel Boorstin

While I’m on the book theme, we listened to “Here Be Monsters” by Alan Snow (read by Bill Wallis) in the car as a family.

I’m a huge fan of borrowing audio books and ebooks from our local library on my phone using Bolinda BorrowBox. So convenient! 📚

These holidays I also re-read “Only Time Will Tell” by Jeffrey Archer (2013). It was a great read and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series (currently on reserve). 📚

Aforementioned (old but pretty good) book was “Inside Steve’s Brain (Expanded Edition)” by Leander Kahney (2009).

I don’t think it needed the “Lessons from Steve” at the end of each chapter but other than that I enjoyed it. It was well researched and well written 📚
